UCSB’s Early Academic Outreach Program to host annual UC Success Night events honoring regional high school seniors

The Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP) at UC Santa Barbara will hold a series of UC Success Night events through May 2 to celebrate the academic success of seniors from UCSB’s EAOP partnership schools who have been admitted to the UC system.

UC-admitted seniors and their families from Fillmore, Santa Paula, Rio Mesa, South, Carpinteria and Channel Islands high schools, as well as those from the Santa Maria Joint Union High School District, are invited to attend their respective school’s event.

The program includes a presentation of awards and of State Proclamations from local Senate and Assembly members in recognition of students’ academic achievement, and student keynote speeches will be delivered in both English and Spanish.

U.S. Congressman Salud Carbajal will attend the April 20 event in Santa Maria, and California Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin will be present at the Channel Islands event April 27.

Attendees also will have the opportunity to meet UCSB faculty and staff members, administrators, alumni and undergraduate students, as well as network with other students and families from their hometown who may be attending the same universities in the fall.

“This is an amazing year of successes for the entire team,” said Britt Ortiz, EAOP director. “We are hosting seven different UC Success Nights across six districts. Several of our partnership schools achieved all-time historical highs in UC applications and admissions for their students this year. We are so appreciative to be part of their success.

“We have the unique opportunity of serving in a leadership capacity when it comes to the college and career readiness efforts of all nine of our partnership high schools,” Ortiz continued. “This is yet another way of celebrating the success and acknowledging the achievements of our students and their families who we assist throughout their high school careers.”

The UC Success Night honoring Rio Mesa High School students will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, in the school cafeteria. The event for the high schools in the Santa Maria Joint Union High School District will follow at 6 p.m. Friday, April 20, in the Veterans’ Memorial Hall, 500 N. Pine St.
