Economists to Discuss the Future of the "Euro" and its Affect on the Global Economy

The English pound, the French franc, the German mark, and the Italian lira are just a few of the dozen European currencies that will become obsolete starting Jan. 1 upon the arrival of the much anticipated euro.

The UCSB Affiliates will sponsor a discussion entitled, "Whither Europe's New Euro?" on Tues., Dec. 11, from 5:15-6:45 p.m. at the Chase Palm Park Recreation Center located at 236 East Cabrillo Boulevard.

The forum, part of the UCSB Affiates Economics Forum series, will feature Benjamin Jerry Cohen, UCSB's Louis G. Lancaster Professor of International Political Economy, who will lead the discussion on how the euro will influence the global economy. Cohen will also address the euro's impacts on the U.S. dollar, and what it will mean for Americans and their economic future.

The cost for the forum is $5 for UCSB Affiliates and Chancellor's Council members and $8 for non-members. Advanced registration is required. For questions call (805) 893-4388.
