UCSB's Early Academic Outreach Program to Host UC Success Nights

The Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP) at UC Santa Barbara will hold a series of UC Success Nights from April 21 to April 28 to celebrate the academic success of seniors from UCSB's partnership schools who have been admitted to any campus in the UC system.

Seniors and their families from Lompoc, South, Hueneme, Rio Mesa, Fillmore, and Santa Paula high schools are invited to attend.

The event includes an awards presentation; recognition by representatives from the offices of Congresswoman Lois Capps, Congressman Elton Gallegly, State Senator Tony Strickland, and State Assemblyman Das Williams, among others; and student keynote addresses in English and Spanish. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet UCSB faculty and staff members, administrators, alumni, and current undergraduate students.

"This is the tenth year that EAOP has hosted this event as part of our effort to promote a college-going culture in our partner schools," said Britt Ortiz, EAOP director. "Many of these students will be the first in their families to attend college."

The first of four UC Success Night events will take place on Thursday, April 21, at 6:30 p.m. in the Lompoc High School library, 515 W. College Ave. It will be followed by a second event on Tuesday, April 26, at 6 p.m. at the South High School library, 1101 Planz Rd. in Bakersfield. Hueneme and Rio Mesa High School students and their families are invited to attend the event on Wednesday, April 27, at 6 p.m. at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center, 800 Hobson Way. The event honoring students at Fillmore and Santa Paula High Schools will take place on Thursday, April 28, at 6 p.m. at Fillmore City Hall, 250 Central Avenue.

UC Success Nights are co-sponsored by the Office of Academic Preparation and the Mathematics, Engineering, and Sciences Achievement (MESA) program. Questions can be directed to the EAOP office at (805) 893-7260.
