Bren Building Closed After Exterior Ceiling Collapses

Officials at UC Santa Barbara hope to reopen the building housing the Bren School of Environmental Science & Management Wednesday morning following the weekend collapse of the ceiling in a lobby area outside an exterior elevator.

The section of the suspended ceiling, estimated to be 20 feet x 25 feet and 4,000 pounds, came down mid-afternoon Saturday. No one was injured. Those who were in the Bren building Saturday afternoon were evacuated safely. The building will be reopened following the inspection of other areas in the building built in a similar fashion.

Faculty, staff, and students were being allowed into the building today to retrieve belongings.
