inside the LZ outer detector

The 12-foot tall, 2-foot thick acrylic tanks of the LZ Outer Detector viewed from below. Four of them surround a vessel containing 10 tons of liquid xenon. The tanks are filled with a liquid scintillator which glows with the presence of radiation, in particular neutrons. The golden 'eyes' convey this glow to the data acquisition computers
