UCSB Amplified II

Jake Goldman and his acoustic guitar inaugurate a new season of music

UCSB Amplified, a performance series featuring UC Santa Barbara students, faculty, staff members and alumni, kicks off its fall season today with singer-songwriter Jake Goldman.

A third-year undergraduate, Goldman blends skillful acoustic guitar playing and soulful lyrics as he performs his original song “Walking.” Goldman also sings with Naked Voices, a campus a cappella group that will perform later in the season as part of UCSB Amplified.

Every week, a new live-recorded mini-concert will showcase UCSB’s exceptional talent and diverse music scene. Next up is a performance by Walter Lewin’s Dotted Line, a quintet featuring Robert Sanlis on guitar and vocals, guitarist Leland Polhemus, drummer Andres Montiel and Nathan Graves. All but Graves are third-year undergraduates at UCSB. The band, named for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s astrophysicist, plays acoustic indie folk-pop.

The world took notice of UCSB Amplified last season when a performance by flutist Azeem Ward, now a graduate of UCSB’s Department of Music, went viral. Since then, Ward’s professional career has taken off. He’s currently touring sold-out venues in the United Kingdom as Azeem X Underbelly with fellow Gaucho alum Timmy Linetsky.
