UCSB Chamber Choir Prepares for Italy Concert Tour

The UC Santa Barbara Chamber Choir, made up of 34 graduate and undergraduate students, will depart June 15 for a 15-day performance tour of Italy, with stops in Siena, Florence, Rome, and cities throughout Tuscany. The ensemble will perform two different programs containing pieces rehearsed in Santa Barbara throughout the year.

To prepare for the tour, the choir performed May 29-30 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Santa Barbara and the Old Mission Santa Inés in Solvang. The performances featured a program spanning five centuries of sacred choral music.

Typically, the choir performs one concert in Santa Barbara at the end of fall, winter, and spring quarters, but due to the group's enormous success, the choir has expanded its schedule to include Old Mission Santa Inés.

The choir was established in 1995 by Michel Marc Gervais, director of choral studies at UCSB. Since then, it has embarked on two tours in California and four European tours, and has recorded seven CDs.
