Saul Rubinek Joins Sharon Lawrence in Cast of Staged Reading at REDCAT of ‘Splitting Infinity,' Winner of First STAGE Competition for Plays

Saul Rubinek has joined Sharon Lawrence and other actors in the cast for the staged reading of "Splitting Infinity," winner of the first STAGE International Script Competition, on Sunday, Jan. 28, at 5 p.m. at REDCAT, the Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theater, in the Walt Disney Concert Hall complex in Los Angeles.

The production is being presented by UC Santa Barbara's Professional Artists Lab and the California NanoSystems Institute, collaborative sponsors of the competition.

Rubinek is particularly known for his work in HBO's award-winning drama "And the Band Played On" and in the Clint Eastwood film "Unforgiven" as well as for his recurring role as Donny Douglas on the hit television series "Frasier."

Lawrence, a television, stage, and film actor, is perhaps best known for her television roles as Sylvia Sipowicz in "NYPD Blue" and Maisy Gibbons on "Desperate Housewives."

She is cast in the other leading role.

Actors Michael Cassidy (Zach Stevens on "The O.C.") and Obie-award winner Angela Goethals (Kathy Sanders in "Jerry Maguire," Gwen in "Spanglish," and Maya Driscoll in the hit Fox drama "24") will co-star.

Jamie Pachino, an award-winning playwright and screenwriter with international credits, wrote the winning script in the Scientists, Technologists, and Artists Generating Exploration (STAGE) competition created by UCSB's Professional Artists Lab and the California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI). The competition, which awards a $10,000 prize to the best new play about science and technology, evolved from a shared desire to make science more accessible to the public and the theatre more reflective of the technological age in which we live.

REDCAT (Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theater) is located at 631 West 2nd St., at the corner of 2nd and Hope Streets, in the Walt Disney Concert Hall Complex.
