The UCSB Affiliates is launching a series of lectures and tours designed to showcase the university's new Campus Plan and the many new facilities being constructed within that framework.
On Sunday, November 20, Marc Fisher, Associate Vice Chancellor for Campus Design and Facilities, will present a comprehensive look at the new vision for the campus --- a striking realignment of open space with broad landscape corridors and framed views of the natural surroundings. His slide presentation will focus on buildings now in design or under construction and how they will fit into the planned new, coherent campus environment.
Known primarily for its public lectures and other outreach activities, the UCSB Affiliates is UC Santa Barbara's largest community support group.
This event is the first in a series of planned public presentations on the campus's changing architecture. It will be held in the auditorium of the new Intercollegiate Athletics Building, which was only recently dedicated. The program will also feature Gil Picciotto, development officer for intercollegiate athletics, who will explain how the diverse needs of coaches, administrators, trainers, and student-athletes contributed to architectural decisions reflected in the building's design. Gil and his colleagues will then lead tours of the new facility, allowing attendees to experience the building and how its form supports its functional needs.
The November 20 lecture and slide presentation will begin at 1:30 p.m. Tours of the building will follow. Admission is $5 and reservations are required. For more information and to make reservations, please contact the UCSB Office of Community Relations at (805) 893-4388.
