Seven Commencement Ceremonies Recognize Each Student

Approximately 4700 students will graduate from UC Santa Barbara in seven official ceremonies on June 8, 14, and 15.

As is traditional at UC Santa Barbara, commencement exercises are organized by college, level of degree, and field of study so that each student can be individually recognized.

Chancellor Henry T. Yang will shake the hand of each student graduating from the College of Creative Studies, the College of Engineering, the College of Letters and Science, and the Graduate Division,

The College of Creative Studies will lead off with its ceremony on Sunday, June 8 at 11 a.m. in Campbell Hall on campus.

On the following weekend, Saturday, June 14 and Sunday, June 15, six separate ceremonies will be held on the Faculty Club Green.

The ceremonies and the guest speakers are as follows:

Sunday, June 8

11 a.m. – College of Creative Studies
Guest Speaker – Alumnus Angela Belcher, a materials chemist who was named one of the top ten scientists in the country by Popular Science

 

Saturday, June 14

9 a.m. - Science and Mathematics
Guest Speaker - Virgil Elings, Chair of the Board of Directors of NanoDevices

1 p.m. - Engineering and Science
Guest Speaker - Michael Klein - President and CEO of Core Wealth

4 p.m. - Social Sciences I
Guest Speaker - Pam Lopker, founder and president of collaboration technology company QAD Inc.

 

Sunday, June 15

9 a.m. - Social Sciences II
Guest Speaker - Jack O'Connell, State Superintendent of Public Instruction

1 p.m. - Arts and Humanities
Guest Speaker - Sherry Lansing, President of Paramount Communications and Chair of Paramount Pictures Motion Picture Group

4 p.m. - Graduate Division
Guest Speaker - Kathryn Fuller, President and CEO of the World Wildlife Fund
