UCSB OPENS BAKERSFIELD OFFICE

UC Santa Barbara celebrates the opening of the UCSB Kern County Education Partnership Center in Bakersfield, Calif. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 2 p.m. on Sept. 22 in their new location at 1401 19th Street, Suite 105.

Scheduled guests include William Hatcher, superintendent of the Kern High School district; Larry Reider, Kern County superintendent of schools; Mel Gregory, director of UCSB Relations with Schools office; Yonie Harris, UCSB dean of students; and Betty Huff, UCSB assistant vice chancellor for student affairs.

"The center underscores UCSB's commitment to Kern County students and their parents and exemplifies our desire to increase the number of local students who are eligible for, and apply to, institutions of higher education," said Rónán Giffin-Murphy, who is an admissions counselor in UCSB's Early Academic Outreach Program and oversees the Bakersfield office. "We want students to go to college, whether they choose UCSB or elsewhere."
