UCSB Chamber Choir and Women’s Chorus
For their Winter 2018 concert on Friday, March 9, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church (1500 State St.), the UCSB Chamber Choir, under the direction of Grey Brothers, and the UCSB Women’s Chorus, under the direction of Tyler Reece, will perform music by Latin American composers. The Women's Chorus program will feature two movements of the "Miss São Sebastião" (Mass in Honor of St. Sebastian) by Heitor Villa-Lobos and will include arrangements of folk and popular songs by Oscar Escalada and Alberto Grau. The Chamber Choir will begin with the charming "Solfa de Pedro" by Mexican Baroque composer Manuel de Sumaya and will close with three movements of Ariel Ramírez's ever popular "Misa Criolla," a piece based on the rhythms and melodies of Argentina, accompanied by percussion, guitar, bass, and piano. The centerpiece of the Chamber Choir program will be Alberto Ginastera's stunning "Lamentaciones de Jeremias Propheta" (Lamentations of Jeremiah the Prophet). Photo by Tony Mastres.
