UCSB's Research Mentorship Program Enables High School Students to Conduct Research and Earn College Credit

UC Santa Barbara's Research Mentorship Program, which enables talented high school students to jump start their college careers, will be held this summer from June 20 through July 29.

In this extraordinary six-week residential program, qualified students take two courses for university credit and conduct research under the tutelage of top researchers in departments as diverse as the arts and music, the humanities, social sciences,

sciences, and engineering.

At the end of the session students present their research findings in a colloquium that is open to the public.

"Students who have participated in the Research Mentorship Program at UCSB have found it to be a life-changing experience, especially for those who came on full scholarships," said Miriam Polne-Fuller, a research biologist in UCSB's Marine Science Institute, who directs the program.

Applications must be submitted to UCSB's Summer Sessions Office by May 27.

Students are required to have a minimum grade point average of 3.3, two letters of recommendation, and other supporting materials.
