2 UCSB Scholars Awarded Fellowships by the National Endowment for the Humanities

Two UC Santa Barbara faculty members are among the 195 scholars nationwide to receive prestigious fellowships this year from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Eileen Boris, Hull Professor in the Women's Studies Program, and Sharon Farmer, professor of history, will each receive a stipend of $40,000 over a nine to 12 month period to further their research.

Boris, who holds the only endowed chair in women's studies in the UC system, will pursue research into the history of housekeepers, health aides and personal attendants in the American home workplace.

Farmer will continue her study of oriental luxuries, Parisian crafts and the making of Europe's fashion capital.

NEH fellowships support individuals pursuing advanced research that contributes to scholarly knowledge or to the general public's understanding of the humanities.
