New UCSB Art Museum Director to Discuss Plans and Programs

Since coming to UC Santa Barbara in July 2002, University Art Museum Director Bonnie G. Kelm has been working to bring her vision to the museum's programs and events.

The public will get a chance to meet the new director as well as receive a preview of upcoming University Art Museum programs at the UCSB Affiliates Chancellor's Breakfast, Wednesday, April 23 at 7:30 a.m. at the Cabrillo Pavilion Arts Center, 1118 East Cabrillo Boulevard, Santa Barbara.

Tickets for the breakfast are $10. Advanced registration is required and can be made by calling the UCSB Office of Community Relations at 893-4388. The breakfast is sponsored by Chancellor Henry Yang and the UCSB Affiliates.

Kelm, who will discuss "Collaboration and Innovation: a Preview of the University Art Museum's Upcoming Programs," earned her Ph.D. from Ohio State University. From 1988 to 1996, Kelm served as the Director of the Miami University Art Museum in Oxford, Ohio, as well as an associate professor of Art History. She has published extensively on such topics as museum management, cultural studies, art history, and, most recently, on Holocaust-related art issues.

UCSB's University Art Museum has garnered an international reputation over the past 30 years for its creative programs and publications. The museum now has nearly 7,000 works in its permanent collection. In addition to its artwork, the museum also offers a variety of outreach activities to the community, including lectures, films, courses, seminars, and workshops.
