'Pickup Truck at Sedgwick, Afternoon'

UC Santa Barbara and Southern California Artists Painting for the Environment (SCAPE) will host a fine art reception, preview, and sale Oct. 19 and 20 to benefit the Sedgwick Reserve in the Santa Ynez Valley.

The SCAPEs at Sedgwick wine reception, private preview, and sale will be held Oct. 19 at 3 p.m. at the historic Sedgwick family home at the reserve.

Environmental paintings by well-known artists Meredith Abbott, Whitney Abbott, Marcia Burtt, Gwen Cates, John Comer, Michael Drury, Ed Lister, Hank Pitcher, Arturo Tello, and Karen Gruszka Tello will be for sale.

Guests will have an opportunity to meet some of the artists.

Cost is $50 per person.

Space is limited.

For information and reservations, call (805) 893-4337.

The following day from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. there will be a public viewing and sale that will include tours of the Sedgwick house.

Admission will be $10 for adults. Children 15 and younger will be admitted free.

The admission fee will be applied toward any art purchase over $100.

For information and reservations, call (805) 686-1941.Proceeds will support K-12 educational outreach and restoration of the reserve, a 5,896-acre expanse of fields, canyons, and woodlands that is a part of the University of California's Natural Reserve System.

The land that is now the Sedgwick Reserve was owned by philanthropist and sculptor Francis "Duke" Sedgwick and his wife, Alice, who gave a large portion of the property to the university as part of their legacy.

UC maintains significant examples of California's diverse aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems for teaching, research, and public service. UCSB oversees seven such sites, including the Sedgwick Reserve.

SCAPE promotes camaraderie among outdoor painters and raises money to protect open spaces.

The artists featured paint at Sedgwick and support its mission.
