LYTLE NAMED UCSB DEAN OF EXTENDED LEARNING SERVICES

Loy Lytle, a professor of psychology and director of Summer Sessions at UC Santa Barbara, has been named dean of extended learning services at the campus after a nationwide search.

Lytle had served as acting dean since August of last year.

Lytle has been a member of the UCSB faculty since 1981. His service to the university reflects his wide-ranging interests, such as instructional development, minority recruitment, educational policy and academic planning, budget, and capital projects. He served for four years as chair of the department of psychology, and was named one of the Teachers of the Year for 1993-94.

"I am delighted that Loy is willing to assume the responsibilities of this important position, and I greatly appreciate his past and continuing service and leadership at UCSB," said Chancellor Henry T. Yang.

As dean of extended learning services, Lytle will serve as the administrator of UCSB Extension, off Campus Studies, the UCSB Ventura Center, and International Programs.

UCSB's continuing education division is open to all adults who seek professional and personal development.

Courses are offered year-round, with evenings and weekend classes. International Programs offers English language programs, diploma and certificate programs to international students and professionals.

Lytle will continue serving as the director of Summer Sessions until a successor is named.
