PARENTS OF OXNARD AREA TEENS ATTEND UCSB CONFERENCE

Graduates of the Parent Institute for Quality Education Program will be at the University of California, Santa Barbara for a conference on Saturday, Sept. 25, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in 1910 Buchanan Hall to find out more about the campus.

The program, held at Kamala and Brekke elementary schools in Oxnard, Calif. for six weeks during Spring 1999, offered classes that taught parents how to help their children obtain higher education successfully and encouraged them to play an active role in their children's education.

Saturday's Parents' Conference is offered by the Office of Relations with Schools to provide the Oxnard parents a first-hand look at UCSB. The parents, who graduated from the program in early June, enthusiastically signed up for the chance.

The Parent Institute is a project of Janet Chrispeels, UCSB associate professor of education. For information about the Parents' Conference, the public may call the Office of Relations with Schools at 893-7227.
