LAKERS TO TRAIN FOR NBA SEASON AT UCSB

Wednesday, September 8, 1999 - 17:00
Santa Barbara, CA

The Los Angeles Lakers NBA basketball team will return to UC Santa Barbara's Robertson Gym for seven days of preseason training Oct. 5-11.

"We are excited and honored that the Lakers have elected to return to UC Santa Barbara," said Jon Spaventa, campus director of physical activities and recreation. "Their presence ... will bring broad smiles to young and old." All practice sessions will be closed to the public.

The Lakers will open the regular season schedule Nov. 2 at Utah.

The Lakers were last here in January, when they prepared for the strike-shortened 1998-99 season, in which they finished second in the Pacific Division.
