CONFERENCE TO EXPLORE ASIAN PACIFIC AMERICAN RELIGIONS

Three dozen scholars from around the United States will gather at UC Santa Barbara March 4-6 for a conference titled "Asian and Pacific Americans and Religion" to discuss such topics as the role of women in the Korean American Presbyterian Church, the interactions of Asians and non-Asians in the Buddhist movement, and Orthodox Christianity among Americans from India.

"The conference will bring together the best minds working on religion as it affects the lives of Asian Americans, from Lao Buddhism to fundamental Christianity. We are especially excited to hear from Professor Rudy Busto, who is perhaps the foremost religious scholar studying Asian Americans today," says Paul Spickard, chair of Asian American Studies at UCSB.

Busto, professor of religion at Stanford University, will give the keynote address titled "DisOrienting Subjects: Towards the Study of Asian Pacific American Religions" at 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 4, in UC Santa Barbara's Interdisciplinary Humanities Center McCune Conference Room (6th floor, Humanities and Social Sciences Building). A reception and refreshments will follow.

The conference is sponsored by the UCSB Departments of Asian American Studies and Religious Studies and the Center for the Study of Religion. For conference information, the public may call 893-2960.
