_x000B_UCSB VOLUNTEERS TO JOIN IV STREET CLEANING SATURDAY

UCSB staff and administrators will join the Isla Vista Recreation and Park District's kick-off for Fall Adopt-A-Block program with an Isla Vista clean-up on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

"Involvement in the Saturday clean-up is one example of UCSB's commitment to Isla Vista," said Debbie Fleming, acting assistent dean, Office of Student Life. "UCSB operates and funds an Isla Vista Community Services Center and contributes funding toward the street sweeping program, the Isla Vista Teen Center, the IV Footpatrol, and a half-time Latino Community Outreach Coordinator."

The Adopt-A-Block Program works to reduce the amount of litter in Isla Vista by involving members of the community in clean-up activities. Although mechanical street sweepers do make the rounds, cleaning is difficult due to the sheer number of parked vehicles.

Adopt-a-Block program is sponsored by UCSB, Santa Barbara County, Goleta West Sanitary District, and Isla Vista Recreation and Park District. Saturday's clean-up efforts coincide with an Isla Vista Recreation and Park District Open House at 961 Embarcadero Del Mar, Isla Vista. For more information, contact Dana Green, Street Sweeping Coordinator and Adopt-A-Block Coordinator, at 968-2017.
