_x000B_FORUM ON CLINTON-LEWINSKY-STARR AFFAIR AT UCSB

Two feminist scholars at the University of California, Santa Barbara have organized a panel discussion, titled "Public Affairs?: Making Sense of the Clinton-Lewinsky-Starr Affair," for Thursday, Oct. 8, at the Interdisciplinary Humanities Center (IHC) on campus from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

"While the scandal has dominated public discourse for months, many voices are still struggling to be heard," said Juliet Williams, a new UCSB faculty member in Law and Society and Women Studies.

"We want people to join us in accepting the challenge we're giving to ourselves and the audience to come up with something new to say, something we haven't heard before," added Constance Penley, professor of Film Studies and Women Studies.

Among the themes considered will be: How should feminists respond to the crisis, and are there positions---like pro-sex feminism---which have been lost in the debate? What role has the media played in generating and perpetuating the scandal? How is the scandal being understood internationally? And what about that blue dress? The session will begin with a series of short presentations, and then the floor will be opened for discussion. The forum will take place in the IHC's McCune Conference Room, located on the sixth floor of the campus's Humanities and Social Sciences Building. For more information, call 569-0556.
